2017 Teen Recycled Fashion Show: Live It or See It!

Live it or see it Saturday, April 22, 2017, 1 to 3 PM at Downtown Library (along Riverwalk).

Manatee County Public Libraries’ popular award-winning event, in collaboration with The Friends of the Library and Keep Manatee Beautiful, gives teenagers the opportunity to live the day in the life of a fashion designer and/or model.

Contestants make their own original fashion using recycled or repurposed materials and present their creation on the runway in front of a live audience where a panel of judges select a winner based on creativity, presentation and use of recycled materials.

Contestants must be no younger than 13 and no older than 19 and can submit as an individual or as a group. They may model their own creations or find a model to wear the piece.

The day includes hair styling and makeup done for free for contestants and their models. Make up is being donated by Brandy Harlan of Mary Kay Cosmetics.

The registration form can be accessed on the library's Website atmymanatee.org/library or by going to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/recycledfashion. It can be submitted online or printed and dropped off at any of the six library locations. Registrations should be completed by Monday, April 17, 2017.

Contestants are asked to attend one of the two Pre-Show meetings scheduled on Monday, April 17, and Wednesday, April 19, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., in the Manatee County Downtown Central Library.

Last year’s show was the biggest one yet with 24 participants—more than twice the number who participated the year before. It also drew the biggest attendance at about 350.

The Teen Recycled Fashion Show is the 2016 recipient of the Florida Library Association’s Betty Davis Miller Youth Services Award, which recognizes innovative or outstanding youth programs, and a 2015 recipient of a Recycling Award from Keep Manatee Beautiful, a non-profit organization committed to making Manatee County a cleaner and more beautiful environment.

Downtown Central Library is located at 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard West, Bradenton, 34205 (along Riverwalk). For more information, please contact Kelly Foster at 941-748-5555, x6307.
