Giving Challenge 2018

Why contribute to Realize Bradenton during the 24-hour Giving Challenge starting at noon on May 1, 2018?

2018-gc.jpgLive music, local food, learning Bradenton through public art, lingering on Riverwalk to watch a sunset… Many of the things you enjoy about downtown connect back to Realize Bradenton.

52 weeks of the year, Realize Bradenton brings people together to enjoy arts, music, food, and community. During 1 week—specifically May 1 & 2—we’re asking you to support this work by giving online during the 2018 Giving Challenge.

This online fundraising event is organized by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and supported by many partners, including the Manatee Community Foundation.

Most exciting is your donation is DOUBLED. Thanks to The Patterson Foundation, all online donations made through will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $100, between noon on Tuesday 5/1/2018 and noon on Wednesday 5/2/2018.

Realize Bradenton's 2018 Giving Challenge Co-Chairperson

02.jpgThanks to Board member Kay Wight, Realize Bradenton was recently asked to present an update on their work in downtown to residents of RiverDance Condominium. Seventy-five eager neighbors filled the meeting room to hear about what's happening in their "front yard."

After the event, I chatted with Kay about what inspires her to support Realize Bradenton.

"As a Board member, your profile reads: 23 years with CBS News and CBS Sports; Former Director of Public Responsibility at American Express; Vice President of MacAndrews & Forbes/Revlon; Chair of the NYC Commission on the Status of Women; Nonprofit work with American Cancer Society; Guttman Institute; and Cornell University."

"Phew! That's amazing! Anything to add?"

"After moving to Bradenton five years ago, in addition to serving on the Realize Bradenton Board, I serve on the Boards of Washington State University Edward R. Murrow College of Communications; the Broadcaster’s Club of Florida and the International Women’s Forum. I am also a member of the Sarasota Media RoundTable and Tiger Bay."

"Why do you love Downtown Bradenton?"

"I love downtown Bradenton because it is accessible, welcoming and offers a wide variety of entertainment, art, food and shopping all in walking distance. Bradenton has something for everyone, no matter the age or particular interest. Bradenton is not just a town, it is an engaged community."

"What inspires you about Realize Bradenton?"

"I am inspired by Realize Bradenton because of the incredible talent and expertise of the staff and board members. We don’t just have a vision, we work closely together to ensure that vision becomes reality—and we have fun doing so! The Realize Bradenton Board is not a board that simply meets and talks: the Realize Bradenton is an action and results oriented board."
