BRADENTON, Fla. — Realize Bradenton is pleased to announce the 2016–2017 season of the downtown Bradenton Farmers’ Market, which opens Saturday, October 1, 2016, 9 a.m.–2 p.m., and continues every Saturday through May 27, 2017. The Market takes place on Old Main Street (12th St. W.), between Manatee Avenue West and 3rd Ave. W. in downtown Bradenton. Parking is free and dogs on leashes are always welcome. Johnette Isham, executive director of Realize Bradenton, the nonprofit organization that produces and promotes the market, points out that several new initiatives will launch this season. “We are thrilled at the continued community engagement at the Bradenton Farmers’ Market this season with the addition of Kids’ Corner, Rainbow Kitchen, and a recent grant that allows market shoppers utilizing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) EBT to double their spending power.” The SNAP Bonus Bucks program is available for the purchase of fresh produce, seafood, poultry, beef and other foods such as bread, honey, cheese, olive oil, and herbs, up to $20.
Other ongoing activities include: Master Gardeners on the first Saturday of the month, Florida Department of Health Activities on the second Saturday of the month, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) health screenings for blood pressure and diabetes on the third Saturday of the month, and Creative Learning Stations, presented by the Central Manatee Library, on the fourth Saturday of the month.
